Al-Taher Palestinian society

It is a non governmental institution dealing with human services, started in 1992 in Biet Hanoun and also Dealing with cultural, educational and social fields especially for children, woman, young people and voluntary works in Gaza Strip.

The institution is authorized in the ministry of interior affairs under 1914.

The institution philosophy

We have a positive opened and flexible philosophy towards social reconstruction and cultural development in rebuilding the Palestinian society; we also work with all groups that contribute in the progress of the society. It is an open discussion and participation to develop the society thinking and to deepen the patriotism towards a free and independent thinking for all groups whatever their religious, political and thinking ideas are .

Work for a good social Palestinian view which respects our sublime values in the society giving it its national, cultural and civilized privacy.

Our message

We are aiming to develop the social and cultural levels in all the classes of our society especially woman and child a matter that leads us to improve the social situations inside the Palestinian family.

Aims

To contribute in the local community especially women, children, in all areas social, psychological and educational ones.

To spread a social awareness for human rights in democratic ways in the society.

To work for a civilized society through democracy.

To respect these rights especially for woman and child according to the international agreements

To solve any social or behavioral troubles in the society

To give a free scopes for economic, social, educational, psychological and cultural support for children.

To develop the awareness level among young people to enable them be confident and reinforce their hidden abilities in all areas of life in a positive way.

Our branches

Our major place is in Beit Hanoun opposite to Biet Hanoun Hospital. This building was constructed in 1992 on 3000 m with two floors including classrooms and offices, training halls and a library, the building was built on an area of 2000m in which there are differnt squares and gardens.

The eastern branch (woman center)

It is in the east of Biet Hanoun (Abu Ghazala area), it is 300m consisted of administrative offices with kindergarten for children, and it was built on an area of 1000m

The institution parts

The financial and administrative department

There are more than 13 employees with fixed salaries yearly and more than 40 volunteers most of them are literate with good and high qualification so this department deals mainly with holidays, promotions after signed from the administration.

The financial manager:

According to the systems and rules of the institution he does all finance works and watch them carefully .

The kindergarten and nursing department

From its beginning the institution was very interested in this stage and planting behavioral deeds among our dearest children so started to build the (buds) or Al Baraem kindergarten in 1992 then followed the Future Candles another work in the east of Biet Hanoun.

The buds (Al Baraem)

Was started under the authorization of the ministry of higher education in Palestine consisting of 300 children yearly an all stages serving many families especially the needy and poor ones ( prisoners' children and martyrs ) . It has many facilities and means through games and sport halls and other educational tools.

The future lights (candles)

Started in 2004 in the east of Biet Hanoun due to the lack of such kindergartens in that area in consists of six class rooms and halls on an area of 1000 m.

The guidance, awareness and information department

THE library

We believe that a book plays an important role in the society awareness, so a library was established to do this role consisting of many references and magazines in both languages Arabic and English where many school students and young people enjoy reading and borrowing any books they need in addition to many projects and activities aiming to increase the amount of books we have , and we are very ambitious to have an electronic library .

The computer lab

The idea started in our institution in1996 when we got 10 pc computers to train young people both males and females and we are always trying to improve the lab .However , the institution was attacked by the Israeli operation against Biet Hanoun in 2006 where many furniture and equipments were destroyed and stolen including the lab computers

And we work hardly to find any supporters to build and developed a new lab serving our young people in Biet Hanoun

The training and culturing department

It makes many training courses for the graduates in both genders in administration and drawing strategies and the main policy of the institution and many other projects

The cultural and educational department

We held many courses for the members of the institutions and their families and the surrounding society in many field such as democracy ,human rights , children rights , healthy awareness , preserving the national heritage and protecting the environment.

Sport and health department

We held many leagues and competitions in different occasions in many fields and as for health we carried out many voluntary medical days and treatment for children and many healthy meetings for families

The informative department

It works for spreading news and reports for the institution activities and many published materials like a survey for the institution system , and also producing advertising materials for celebrations and meetings times including posters and also the institution's web site that gives a clear window of the institution activates and to communicate with other institutions world wide

Social activity department

It consists of many committees through out north Gaza areas where each area is divided into squares to help more people who are very qualified persons from those areas and they made a data base for those population a scientific ways and the data is updated continuously to help every needy and poor family , of course, under the support of many institutions and other people inside and outside the country.

The heritage and expressive art department

It aims to spread a social awareness so as to keep the Palestinian heritage and it consists of three main unities:

Pop art unity

It rehabilitees and trains children and young people in different ages on pop dancing (Dabka) through out three groups children, beginners and young people.

The drawing and crafts unity

It deals with the skills and abilities among young people and develops their performance a, glass painting, wooden works ,pottery , it also gives women the necessary needs for embroidery. And also give the essential consultations to them to help them in arranging exhibitions showing their abilities and products.

The theatre and music unity

Training children and young people on signing , playing and the theater performance such acting and miming and how to deal with stage …… and it also seeks to establish a new musical band in the coming future .

The projects carried out from 2006-2007

Support and library activation

From the help of ECHO in co operation with Kanaan institution where we held many works aiming to give psychological support for children , and enable their reading abilities as well as their role in the library ( reading stories ) among 400 children from 10 years old children and through 6 months from 15/2/2006-1/8/2006

Safe playing areas project

The institution from 2006-2008 carried out this project with the partnership of SAVE THE CHILDREN institution where we tried to give services for about 3000 children directly through playing activities , story reading , free games and meetings with their mothers and young people .

The reconstruction project

The institution carried out several reconstruction projects for the institution and its buildings with the support of many groups such as Save the Children and Italian COOPY and UNDP.

The unemployment project (BEKDAR)

This project for unemployment was carried out from the support of the Palestinian economic council for reconstruction (BEKDAR) the budget was 53000$ the targeted groups were the poor ones more than 165 workers from the city of Biet Hanoun during three months from the beginning of 10/2007 to 12/2007 have been divided into three groups (roads cleaning group, maintenance group and graduate groups for administrative tasks)

The safe play project 2

With the partnership of Save the Children the institution gave more psychological , social, and educational support for children from 6-17 through games , dancing ,drawing , acting more over it works with the parents and guides mothers dealing with stress . Awareness. …..

Summer camps

The institution carried out the project of the 2007 summer camps by the support from the UNRWA in co operation with Kannan institution and the targeted group was 400 children participated in the institution regional and central festivals.

A summer camp for children from 6 to 8 years from the ministry of sport and Palestinian youth.

The (QIUCKERS) the local achievement

The institution carried out this project in co operation with Al –Attaa' and quicker services the young Palestinian people program , it adopts the idea of younger partnership in work , the targeted group between 14 to 17 it also enables them to be democratic inside their communities .

Urgent Human Aid project

§ The institution had many urgent aids for poor families in North Gaza as follows:

1000Food containers in different stages from the contribution of many supporting institution such as Catholic Relief ,Islamic Relief , the co operation institute ,Save the Children , Reefed institution , the Churches Communities , World View institute , the North Governorate and agricultural Relief and others .

§ Winter clothes where 400 aids (two covers and food container) from the Catholic Relief for the inhabitants of Biet Hanoun Hanoun Abed Rabu area in Jabalia.

And another 400 two covers from Reefed institution

§ Meat and winter clothes for school students from Save the Family institution.

§ Clothes for children and dresses for women where more than 500 poor families were included from Al Ataa' in Biet Hanoun by the support of Amman ladies institute.

§ Gas lights for cooking and lighting where 300 aids were given to the families from the support of Rafeed.

§ School bags for students where 800 bags to 400 poor families in co operation with Al Haiat and Al-Amal institution by the support of Rafeed

§ Food containers during Ramadan where 100 aids were given to poor families by the support of the Islamic Relief

§ Al_Adahi Meat for poor families where more than 400 aids to poor families in Al –Adha Aid .by the support of the Man land institution and Affairs works institution

§ Monetary aids where many financial aids were given by the united Churches community.

§ Stationary , cleaning bags and gifts to many kindergartens by ANERA institute

§ Students with special cases who are having financial problems, prisoner's sons and martyrs are not paying any fees in the institution kindergartens as a simple help .

The number of these cases is 80 students a year of 300 students

Helping the needy poor families project

AVG from the support of CHF the institution is making with the partnership of the CHF a help for the poor families AVG and also in Co operation with world food program by the support of the USAID.

The institution activities from 2007-02008

§ The institution has given many training courses for woman who works for the awareness of Palestinian woman and its rights internationally and nationally.

§ Many meetings were held with woman in many subjects such as the personal law rules.

§ First aid courses for woman.

§ Courses for psychological support and developing the culture of human rights and deepen the principles of democracy inside the local community for all classes.

§ Many workshops to develop the theoretical knowledge and gain practical skills that contribute in making a true change in social behavior leading to establish the respect of human rights and especially woman and child rights

§ Many entertainment and cultural activities were held such opened and closed summer camps for children and young people for both males and females.

§ Educational and teaching rules by making additional lessons for all stages (elementary – primary and high stages) in Math and English and also many training courses for university graduates.

§ Many projects in drama , theatre and libraries through the support of Ataa' Gaza institution , the project was held during two months in partnership of Basmma and Kannan institutions by the support of UNDB to children from 10-15 years .

§ The institution is having many workshops for mother under the supervision of ANERA .

§ Many activities were held to children through out the human and democracy center for conflicts and the program was distributed to many weeks and the activities were the right to play and live freely and other rights in general and dealing with social problems , 60 children from the age of 10-14 years were included in this program .

§ Cultural and theater activity in co operation with Iyyam Al-Masrah to show good and useful play for youth and another one for children, 250 children were included in both genders.

§ The institution held many meetings with academics, school headmasters and parents to discuss the educational problem weakness among children in their schools and other meetings with teachers and students to specify the main causes of the problem and make a comprehensive study to deal with such weakness.

Finally

Despite the hard times , the institution has passed thorough by the attack of the Israeli forces and the destruction it caused, and also the latest attack resulting from the last interior conflict and and most importantly the very bad financial problems the institution has, the institution still works to achieve the social needs especially child and woman and there are many other projects waiting the necessary support to become true as :

§ A new computer center in the institution

§ Anew bakery

§ New and developed kindergartens in modern and educational techniques

§ Projects for woman, children, and young people.

§ New projects for unemployed graduates

§ Increasing the necessary and argent aids to poor families.
